Activities to promote culture in conjunction with environmental conservation some activities have been reshaped into online activities to reduce pollution to the environment, including decreasing waste.
There is also a campaign to cooperate with all sectors in organizing sustainable activities for waste reduction and environmental and energy conservation.

UP Preserves the "Tan Khao Mai Sai Bat Luang" Tradition 2026, Honoring Lanna Wisdom and Promoting Sustainable Cultural Heritage of Phayao
The University of Phayao organized the "Tan Khao Mai Sai Bat Luang Ceremony 2026" on 17–18 January 2026 at Kwan Phayao, Wat Tilok Aram, and Wat Sri Khom Kham (Royal Monastery), Mueang Phayao District, Phayao Province. The ceremony was presided over by Associate Professor Supakorn Pongbangpho, Ph.D. President, University of Phayao, with participation from the Governor of Phayao, university executives, government agencies, local communities, and the public. The event aimed to preserve, revive, and promote the valuable Lanna cultural heritage while fostering cultural awareness among youth and society.
The ceremony underscores the University of Phayao's role in cultural preservation as a core mission of the institution. Associate Professor Dr. Supakorn Phongbangpho emphasized the importance of integrating academic knowledge with local wisdom to ensure the sustainable conservation and transmission of Phayao's cultural identity in a manner that aligns with contemporary social contexts.
Key activities included the traditional sacred rice stirring ceremony and the unique boat procession offering newly harvested rice to Phra Chao Ton Luang, the revered Buddha image of Phayao with a history of over 535 years. Recognized as a one-of-a-kind cultural tradition in the world, the event reflects faith, unity, and collective efforts to safeguard Lanna cultural heritage. The ceremony was also held in celebration of the 16th anniversary of the University of Phayao and dedicated as a royal merit-making activity in honor of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, The Queen Mother.

UP Joins 2026 King Ngam Muang Ritual Ceremony to Preserve Phayao's Cultural Heritage
On March 5, 2026, the University of Phayao participated in the annual King Ngam Muang Worship Ceremony, one of the most significant cultural traditions of Phayao Province. Assistant Professor Wuthichai Chairinkam, Ph.D. Vice President for Student Quality, represented the university at the ceremony. The event took place at the King Ngam Muang Monument in Mueang Phayao District, Phayao Province.
The ceremony was presided over by Ms. Oraphapa Lohwira, Governor of Phayao Province, who led the traditional Four Guardian Deities Invocation ritual as part of the worship ceremony. The event was attended by provincial administrators, government officials, military and police personnel, representatives from the private sector, and members of the public. The University of Phayao also participated in the ceremonial tribute and joined more than 2,000 performers in a synchronized Fon Leb (Lanna fingernail dance) performance to the traditional song "Pao Kai Bai," reflecting the rich artistic heritage of Northern Thailand.
The program included a Buddhist blessing ceremony, during which ten monks chanted sacred prayers to bring prosperity and well-being to the province and its people. Another key highlight was the Suep Chata Kwan Phayao ritual, a traditional Lanna ceremony performed to spiritually revitalize and bless Kwan Phayao, the province's largest natural freshwater lake and a vital ecological and cultural landmark that has long supported local livelihoods, economic activities, and community life.
Held annually as part of the King Ngam Muang Festival and the Phayao Red Cross Fair, the ceremony commemorates the legacy of King Ngam Muang, the historical ruler of Phayao who played a crucial role in the establishment and development of the city. The event also reflects a collective commitment among local institutions, communities, and cultural organizations to safeguard and transmit the region's Lanna heritage, traditions, and cultural identity to future generations.

School of Education Hosts Songkran Cultural Preservation Event 2026
On April 20, 2026 (B.E. 2569), the School of Education, University of Phayao, conducted a merit-making ceremony for the School of Education, along with a traditional water-pouring ceremony to pay respect to senior members for the year 2026. The event was held at the School of Education Office. On this occasion, Associate Professor Dr. Raksit Suttipong, the Dean of the School of Education, presided over the ceremony and performed the ritual of lighting candles and incense to pay homage to the Triple Gem. He was joined by the executive administrators, distinguished experts, lecturers, supporting staff, and the Student Union, all of whom participated in the activity in a respectful and well-coordinated manner. The event featured a merit-making ceremony, including the offering of monetary donations and food to monks. Three monks were invited to chant Buddhist prayers for auspiciousness. On this occasion, commemorative plaques were also presented to faculty members who had been promoted to higher academic ranks.
Subsequently, personnel participated in the traditional water-pouring ceremony to pay respect and seek blessings from senior members. This activity serves to preserve Thai cultural heritage, reflecting respect, gratitude, and appreciation, while also fostering morale and unity within the organization. Such activities contribute to promoting desirable characteristics of the teaching profession and are in line with the mission of the School of Education in preserving arts and cultural heritage, as well as enhancing pride in local identity and wisdom. Engineering Showcases of Thainess and Thai Cultural Identity at "Meeting of the Mind" Celebrating the 16th Anniversary of University of Phayao
The "Meeting of the Mind" project was held in celebration of the 16th anniversary of the establishment of the University of Phayao. The event was organized under the theme "Exquisite Thai Attire in Honor of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, Eternal in Royal Grace", with the primary objectives of providing a platform for university executives to articulate institutional policies and strategic directions, while fostering engagement, collaboration, and a sense of shared purpose among administrators and personnel across the university.
The project was organized by the Central Division, Corporate Communication Unit, and took place on January 7, 2026, at Room UB 003, the 99th Anniversary Building of Phra Ubali Kunupamachan, University of Phayao. Engineering Participates in Commemoration Ceremony of King Naresuan the Great's Passing Paying Tribute to His Benevolence 2026
On Saturday, 25 April 2026, the Dean of the School of Engineering, University of Phayao, assigned the Vice Dean for Student Affairs and Industrial Collaboration to represent the School at the Commemoration Ceremony of the Passing of King Naresuan the Great, 2026. The ceremony was held to honor and pay tribute to the profound royal benevolence and to commemorate the enduring legacy of King Naresuan the Great.
The ceremony was presided over by Miss Orapa Lohwira, Governor of Phayao Province, who led heads of government agencies, public sector organizations, local administrative bodies, private sector representatives, civic groups, and members of the public in laying wreaths in royal tribute and delivering formal commemorative remarks before the statue of King Naresuan the Great.

"Rod Nam Dam Hua" Ceremony Honoring the University President and Senior Members at the "Pi Mai Mueang (Lanna New Year) Festival, University of Phayao
On 20 April 2026, the faculty's executive team and personnel participated in the Rod Nam Dam Hua ceremony honoring the University President and senior members on the occasion of the Songkran Festival. The ceremony was held as part of the "Pi Mai Mueang (Lanna New Year) Festival, University of Phayao 2026" at Phaya Ngam Muang Auditorium, University of Phayao.
In addition, the event featured the ceremonial bathing of Phra Phuttha Phuchakharak, the Buddha image of the University of Phayao, as well as the royal statue of King Naresuan the Great, for auspicious blessings. The program also included activities reflecting the identity of Lanna culture, such as the traditional Lanna-style larb cooking competition and the Dam Hua procession, which beautifully embodied unity, cultural richness, and the refined elegance of local wisdom rooted in Lanna Thai heritage.

Engineering Preserves Lanna New Year Tradition 2026 Promoting Cultural Heritage Conservation
On 20 April 2026, School of Engineering, University of Phayao, organized a ceremonial water-pouring ritual over Buddha images to invoke auspiciousness, as part of the continuation of the "Paa Wiang Pi Mai Mueang" (Lanna New Year Tradition) of the School. The activity was held for School members and staff at the EN 1–2 activity area.
On this occasion, the School of Engineering participated in the traditional "Larb Muang" (Northern-style minced meat salad) competition for the first time and was awarded a consolation prize. In addition, the School hosted a food booth offering bubble milk tea and rice crackers to event participants. The booth attracted considerable attention, with a steady flow of visitors throughout the event, contributing to a vibrant and engaging atmosphere.
This initiative underscores the School's active role in preserving and promoting local cultural heritage, while fostering unity and participation within the organization. School of Education won the First Runner-Up Award in the Traditional Khao Lam Roasting Competition at the 2026 "Tan Khao Mai Sai Bat Luang" Cultural Event
On January 17, 2026, the School of Education sent representatives of personnel and students to participate in the "Traditional Khao Lam Roasting" competition, which was part of the 2026 Tan Khao Mai Sai Bat Luang project. The event was held at the King Ngam Mueang Monument Plaza, Mueang Phayao District. It was honored by Associate Professor Dr. Supakorn Pongbangpho, President of the University of Phayao, who presided as the opening ceremony president, and Ms. Oranarpa Rohwira, Governor of Phayao Province, who delivered the welcoming remarks. The event was attended by representatives from government agencies, the public sector, and local communities across Phayao Province, who gathered to preserve, conserve, and revitalize valuable Lanna traditions, while fostering cultural awareness among youth and society.

Engineering Participates in New Year Merit-Making to Mark University of Phayao 16th Anniversary
The New Year Merit-Making Ceremony for the Year 2026 was held in celebration of the 16th Anniversary of the University of Phayao. The ceremony was organized by the Central Office of the University of Phayao and took place on 9 January 2026 at the Multipurpose Courtyard, 1st Floor, Office of the President Building, University of Phayao.
The ceremony was held to bestow auspiciousness upon participants, enhance morale and encouragement among university personnel, and preserve and promote the cultural heritage and traditions of the Lanna region. On this occasion, a merit-making ceremony was also conducted and dedicated as a royal merit in memory of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit The Queen Mother, following her passing, as an expression of profound mourning and reverent remembrance of her immeasurable royal grace and benevolence bestowed upon the Thai people and the nation.

"Chui Chai Fah Mui" : University of Phayao Showcases Cultural Soft Power at the 24th Higher Education Arts and Culture Festival
University of Phayao continues to strengthen Thailand's cultural soft power through higher education by showcasing creative performing arts and fostering student development on a national platform. Led by Dr. Vutthichai Chaiyarinkam, Vice President for Student Quality, together with university executives, faculty members, and students from the Music and Dance Program, School of Architecture and Fine Arts, the University of Phayao participated in the 24th Higher Education Arts and Culture Festival held at Phranakhon Rajabhat University.
"Chui Chai Fah Mui" is a contemporary creative dance piece that reflects the identity, pride, and spirit of the University of Phayao through symbolic storytelling. The performance synthesizes key institutional symbols, including Phra Phuttha Phuchakarak, the Buddha image of the University of Phayao; King Naresuan the Great, a spiritual and historical symbol of leadership and courage; the Sataphan (seven-tiered base) featured in the university emblem; the University of Phayao academic gown, representing student pride; and the Fah Mui flower, the university's symbolic flower, signifying growth, quality, and global recognition of its graduates.
Participation in the 24th Higher Education Arts and Culture Festival underscores the University of Phayao's role in promoting Thai arts and culture as a form of national soft power, while integrating cultural preservation with experiential learning. On 20 October 2025, the School of Political and Social Sciences organized the "Tak Bat Theworohana and Tan Tod Cultural Seminar and Exhibition 2025" at the Phukamyao Building. The event was opened by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Direk Theeraputtorn, Vice President for Corporate Communications, with a welcome address by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Montra Pongnil, Dean of the School.
More than 80 participants from within and outside the University attended the event, which was held in collaboration with Wat Pa Phra Ubalee, Mae Ka Subdistrict Municipality, community leaders, and cultural networks across Phayao Province.
The exhibition showcased cultural knowledge of the Tak Bat Theworohana and Tan Tod traditions, cultural performances by elderly community groups, and a panel discussion featuring experts in religion, academia, and local culture.

School of Political and Social Sciences Upholds Local Tradition Through Annual "Tan Tod Ceremony" and Delivers Community Support
On Tuesday, 21 October 2025, the School of Political and Social Sciences, University of Phayao, represented by Dr. Rakkiet Intabtun (Deputy Dean for Student Affairs and Alumni Relations) and Dr. Sansai Wongsuwan (Assistant Dean), together with staff members, participated in the annual "Tan Tod Ceremony" in Mae Ka Subdistrict, Phayao Province.
The activity, organized in collaboration with Mae Ka Police Station and Wat Pa Phra Ubalee, aimed to preserve local cultural traditions while providing community support. Donations including rice, dried food, and daily essentials were delivered to Phayao Special Education School.
Additionally, the University—together with Wat Pa Phra Ubalee—plans to renovate the home of Ms. Pin Thongkham, a resident of Village 10, as part of its ongoing social service initiatives.
The School also contributed proceeds from the 2025 Thot Kathin and Tak Bat Theworohana Cultural Exhibition, reinforcing the mission to integrate academic development with meaningful community engagement.

On Wednesday, 5 November 2025, the School of Political and Social Sciences, led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Montra Pongnil (Dean) and Dr. Rakkiet Intabtun (Deputy Dean for Student Development and Alumni Relations), participated in the ceremony "Moments of Remembrance on the Full Moon of the 12th Lunar Month" at Wat Tilok Aram, located in the middle of Phayao Lake.
The ceremony was presided over by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Supakorn Pongsabangpo, President of the University of Phayao. University executives, faculty members, students, and local residents joined in offering alms to nine monks and practicing meditation in tribute to Her Majesty Queen Sirikit The Queen Mother.

The ceremony was presided over by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Montra Pongnil, Dean of the School, who led administrators, faculty members, staff, and student representatives from the School's Student Union in the event.
The afternoon featured creative cultural activities reflecting Lanna wisdom and identity, including traditional lamp casting, symbolizing unity under the Queen Mother's benevolence, and lantern-making workshops, allowing participants to create handcrafted cultural items in an engaging and warm atmosphere.
In the evening, participants gathered in silence to pay tribute before lighting the ceremony's central lamps in "The Light of Loyalty: Eternal in Thailand", followed by "Lanterns from the Heart: Sending Prayers to the Heavens". Engineering Participates in the Annual Tak Bat Devo Ceremony 2025 Fostering Moral Integrity and Community Good Governance
On October 8, 2025, School of Engineering, University of Phayao, participated in the "Annual Tak Bat Devo Ceremony 2025 and Strengthening Moral and Good Governance in the Organization in Collaboration with the Mae Ka Community." The ceremony took place at Wat Pa Phra Ubalee, Mae Ka Subdistrict, Mueang Phayao District, Phayao Province. The event was jointly organized by the Division of General Affairs, in collaboration with the School of Political and Social Sciences, the Office of the President, the Division of Student Affairs, the Division of Building and Grounds, Wat Pa Phra Ubalee, the Mae Ka Subdistrict Municipality, and community leaders.
The ceremony was presided over by Dr. Wuthichai Chairinkam, Vice President for Student Quality, who also delivered a Dhamma sermon on the history and significance of the Tak Bat Devo day. Following the sermon, twelve Buddhist monks descended to receive offerings of rice and dried food from the Buddhist lay community.
This activity served as an opportunity to preserve and promote the traditional Tak Bat Devo ceremony, while also disseminating knowledge about the unique cultural heritage of the "Tan Tod" tradition—a distinctive identity of Phayao Province. The traditional ceremony project of the Chom Thong Pagoda Cloth Procession this time is a joint celebration marking the 16th anniversary of the University of Phayao. It was a collaboration between the School of Liberal Arts, the School of Education, the School of Political Science and Social Sciences, the School of Architecture and Fine Arts, together with Phayao Province, Phayao Municipality, government agencies, private sectors, local authorities, and communities, corresponding with the university's mission and following the University of Phayao's strategic plan in preserving arts and culture, enhancing identity, instilling values, and maintaining customs and traditions among staff and students. It was also aimed at conserving the ancient culture and traditions so that they continue to thrive in Phayao Province.

School of Education participated in the fetching water ceremony and bathed Phra That Chom Thong
The annual procession of the Phra That Chom Thong cloth was an activity that adheres to good traditions, combined with the ancient beliefs of Buddhists who believe that bringing cloth to cover around the pagoda, like offering a set of robes to the Lord Buddha, is considered the highest auspiciousness. The water used in this water scooping ceremony was collected from 8 important water sources, including "the Royal Reservoir water" from the water reservoir inside the University of Phayao, which is an important water source that supports students and staff of the university. It also reflects the awareness of sustainable water resources management (SDG 6: Access to clean water and sanitation) in terms of valuing and prioritizing local water sources, and the University of Phayao promoted learning and continues good values to create a strong and sustainable society.

"Peng Pud" is a unique Buddhist tradition in which alms are offered at midnight on a Wednesday of the full moon (the 15th day of the waxing moon). According to ancient beliefs, an enlightened monk named Maha Upagupta, known for his great spiritual power and ability to bestow blessings, emerges from deep meditation under the ocean on the night of Tuesday (14th waxing moon) transitioning into Wednesday (15th waxing moon). He then takes the form of a young novice monk and wanders for alms, offering blessings and good fortune to those who make merit by giving alms to him. It is widely believed that those who participate in this tradition will receive great prosperity, fortune, and auspiciousness in their lives.

School of Political and Social Sciences Participates in the Royal Kathina Robe Offering Ceremony for the Buddhist
This year, His Majesty the King graciously bestowed the Royal Kathina Robes and its accompanying ceremonial items to the University of Phayao, entrusting them to present to the monks who had completed the three-month Buddhist Lent at Wat Si Khom Kham, Wiang Subdistrict, Mueang Phayao District, Phayao Province.
The morning began with a ceremonial procession led by Professor Emeritus Atthapol Yaisawang, President of the University of Phayao Council, accompanied by the university's executives, students, distinguished guests, and participants, who carried the Royal Kathina Robes to Wat Si Khom Kham. Associate Professor Dr. Supakorn Phongsabangpho, President of the University of Phayao, presided over the offering ceremony on behalf of the university.

The School of Allied Health Sciences at University of Phayao hosted a New Year's 2025
The school invited two distinguished monks: Phra Kru Udompawanacharn (Luang Pu Thongsuk Uttarapanjo) from Ananlayothipayaram Temple and Phra Pannya Phisalthera (Luang Pho Khammoon Chitmaro), the Provincial Abbot of Phayao-Nan (Dhammayut) and Abbot of Rattanwararam Temple. They offered New Year's blessings and sprinkled holy water for good fortune and prosperity.
The warm and auspicious ceremony took place in the School's Hall and was graced by the presence of deans from several other schools at the University of Phayao, including Public Health, Energy and Environment, Nursing, Dentistry, Science, Liberal Arts, and Architecture and Art. School of Education Participates in New Year Merit-Making Ceremony for 2025 "Huam Bun Khuen Pee Mai Hoi Duang Jai Chao Mo Phayao"
Associate Professor Dr. Raksit Sutthiphong, Dean of the School of Education, along with Assistant Professor Dr. Sunthorn Klaeam, the Associate Dean for Administration and Student Quality Development, Assistant Professor Dr. Natthawut Sappso, Assistant Dean for Student Affairs and Teacher Quality Development, along with faculty members and support staff, participated in the merit-making ceremony in celebration of the New Year 2025, "Huam Bun Khuen Pee Mai Hoi Duang Jai Chao Mo Phayao."
The event was organized by the Central Administration of the University of Phayao and took place at the multipurpose area on the 1st floor of the Office of President Building, University of Phayao. The ceremony was led by Associate Professor Dr. Supakorn Pongbangpho, President of the University of Phayao, along with other administrators and university staff, to bring blessings for the new year. The event also aimed to preserve and continue the cultural traditions of the Lanna people for future generations.

The University of Phayao is working in Collaboration with the Development of Ethnic Embroidery Patterns that feature Candle Writing. The Goal of this Project is to promote and preserve the Cultural Identity of the Pong District in Phayao Province
The Community Enterprise Group of Ethnic Embroidery Cloth and Candle Writing Fabric in Ban Sip Song Phatthana, Pha Chang Noi Subdistrict, Pong District, Phayao Province, is made up of brothers and sisters from the highlands who produce products that reflect the local identity. They specialize in creating unique embroidery patterns and candle writing fabric, but face challenges within the trading system. In order to ensure a sustainable income, the group relies on specific sales channels. Recognizing the potential of electronic commerce technology, the School of Information and Communication Technology at the University of Phayao is assisting in leveraging this technology to support the business of selling products from the community enterprise group of ethnic embroidery cloth and candle writing fabric in Ban Sib Song Phatthana.

The School of Education, led by Assistant Professor Dr. Sunthon Khlai-Um, the Associate Dean of Planning and Student Quality Development, Assistant Professor Dr. Natthawut Subphaso, Assistant Dean, and representative students of the School of Education, participated in the walking into university traditional activity for the year 2025, arranged by the Division of Student Affairs in collaboration with Wiang at King Naresuan Monument, in front of the University of Phayao. It was honored by Associate Professor Dr. Supakorn Pongbangpho, President of the University of Phayao, and administrators, leading the procession of new students to invite Lanna style offerings to pay homage to Phra Buddha Phusha Ka Raksa, the University Buddha statue. Moreover, the conservation of traditional clothing in each Wiang reflected the love, unity, and determination of students from each area in walking to the university to pay homage to Phra Buddha Phusha Ka Raksa. It was an activity that tested the perseverance of students both physically and mentally, showing unity in the same way of walking into the university for a distance of more than 4 kilometers.

On Thursday, June 26, 2025, the School of Liberal Arts organized the annual Wai Khru ceremony under the theme "Paying Homage to Respected Teachers" for the academic year 2025. The event was presided over by Assistant Professor Dr. Chittima Kaweera, Dean of the School of Liberal Arts, and attended by administrators and representatives of school members. The purpose of the ceremony was to preserve and promote the rich cultural traditions of Thailand, strengthen bonds between students and school, and foster encouragement and inspiration within the academic community.

University of Phayao Engineering Alumni Reconnect at Strengthening Alumni Connections Event
School of Engineering, University of Phayao, successfully hosted the "Strengthening Alumni Connections in Engineering" project on 22–23 August 2025 at Vishnukarma Courtyard. The opening ceremony was graciously presided over by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Supakorn Pongbangpho, President of the University of Phayao, with a welcome address delivered by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nattapong Damrongwiriyanupap, Dean of the School of Engineering, outlining the objectives of the program.
The two-day event featured a diverse range of cultural, academic, and professional activities. Highlights included the Vishnukarma Worship Ceremony and Bai Sri Su Kwan Ceremony, as well as the presentation of Outstanding Personnel Awards, Distinguished Alumni Awards, Certificates of Academic Excellence Scholarships, and Financial Aid Scholarships. The program also featured specialized workshops on Prota Structure and Net Zero, designed to enhance professional competencies in engineering.
Furthermore, the project is aligned with the University of Phayao's strategic direction in promoting cultural heritage and national identity. It also supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 17: Partnership for the Goals, by fostering collaborative partnerships that contribute to sustainable development on both national and global scales.
