The University of Phayao leads the Phayao Learning City initiative as a member of the UNESCO Global Network of Learning Cities, while developing Green Campus infrastructure as a model for sustainable urban development.Policies and Plans

Green Campus Infrastructure
- Forested and Planted Vegetation Areas: green spaces and forests within the university.
- Water Absorption Areas: flood prevention through natural water absorption zones.
- Green Facilities: environmentally friendly buildings across campus.
Sustainable Transportation
- UP BusTransit: electric bus service operating within the university. (bustransit.up.ac.th)
- Bike Share Services: public bicycle lending service.
- Pedestrian Paths and Cycling Lanes across campus.
- Restriction of private vehicles near university buildings.
Ecosystem Restoration
- Canal Bio-remediation: restoring water quality in campus waterways.
Phayao Learning City
- Officially recognized by UNESCO as a member of the Global Network of Learning Cities on 2 September 2022, as one of three Thai representatives alongside Sukhothai and Hat Yai. (source)
- Collaboration with Phayao PAO, Phayao Municipality, local communities, and the private sector, applying UNESCO principles to promote lifelong learning across all dimensions of society.
