The MOU was formally signed by Associate Professor Supakorn Pongbangpho, Ph.D. President, University of Phayao, and Professor Dr. Tai-Joo Chung, President of GKNU, with Professor Dr. Chuleui Jung, Director of the Agriculture Research Institute, serving as a witness. The collaboration builds upon ongoing academic ties, particularly in agricultural biotechnology and related fields.
This partnership focuses on advancing research in key agricultural areas, including apiculture, livestock (cattle and buffalo), and plant genetics. It also promotes the exchange of researchers, academic staff, and students, alongside the development of innovative technologies applicable to local communities and global contexts.
During the visit, UP delegates participated in an academic seminar on agricultural innovation at GKNU, where they presented the university's research strengths and shared practical agricultural technologies implemented in Phayao Province. The presentations received strong interest from GKNU faculty members, researchers, and students.
Located in Andong, a cultural hub of South Korea, GKNU provided an enriching environment for both academic exchange and cultural engagement, further strengthening mutual understanding between the two institutions.
This collaboration underscores the University of Phayao's proactive role in expanding its international presence and fostering strategic partnerships. University of Phayao Joins Nanhua University to Advance Global Sustainability at International Symposium 2026
March 27, 2026, The University of Phayao (UP) participated in the "2026 International Symposium on Global University Partnership for Promoting Health and Environmental Sustainability," hosted by Nanhua University, Taiwan, in celebration of its 30th anniversary.
Associate Professor Supakorn Pongbangpho, Ph.D. President, University of Phayao, delivered a keynote speech highlighting the role of universities in advancing sustainable development and strengthening global partnerships. The event gathered international scholars and experts to discuss key issues including climate action and the social impact of higher education in support of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
As part of the program, UP's School of Architecture and Fine Arts organized the 1st SAFA International Arts Exhibition, featuring works from five countries and reinforcing international academic and cultural collaboration. UP researchers also received an Honorable Mention Award for a poster presentation.
The symposium further strengthened collaboration between UP and international partners, including ongoing initiatives with Nanhua University and new academic links with Taipei National University of Arts, supporting future research and student exchange under their established MOU and the "NHU-UP Higher Education Sprout Project."

UP Takes the Global Stage at 2026 Shanghai Climate Week
Shanghai, China, April 23, 2026 – The University of Phayao has marked a significant milestone on the global stage as its President, Associate Professor Supakorn Pongbangpho, Ph.D., was invited to deliver a prestigious Leader's Speech at the opening ceremony of the 2026 Shanghai Climate Week in Shanghai, People's Republic of China.
This high-level international platform brought together distinguished education leaders from across the world, including representatives from Japan, Brazil, and India. During the session, the University of Phayao showcased its forward-looking vision, emphasizing the critical role of higher education institutions in cultivating climate-literate global citizens who are equipped to respond to the challenges of climate change.
In addition, Associate Professor Phanintra Teeranon, Ph.D. Assistant to the President, was honored to serve as a moderator for the Thematic Reports session under the topic "Education for Growth: Integrating Human Rights, Innovation, and Sustainability." University of Phayao Signs MOU with Chang Gung University of Science and Technology (CGUST), Taiwan, to Enhance Global Nursing Excellence
On January 12-13, the executive leadership of the University of Phayao, led by the President, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Supakorn Pongbangpo, and the Faculty of Nursing, led by the Dean, Asst. Prof. Dr. Dao Wiangkum, attended the official Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signing ceremony with Chang Gung University of Science and Technology (CGUST), Taiwan. Representing CGUST was its President, Dr. Jun-Yu Fan.
This partnership aligns with the university's internationalization strategy, aiming to elevate its global presence. The primary objective is to foster collaboration between the School of Nursing and CGUST in four key areas: academic management, student development, staff exchange, and joint research.
During the visit, the executive team engaged in strategic planning to translate the agreement into concrete actions, as well as an exchange of teaching strategy regarding Simulation-Based Learning (SBL) and site visits to healthcare facilities. The delegation observed tertiary care operations at Chang Gung Memorial Hospital and primary care services at the Health Center in Toufen, Miaoli County, to study primary health care models.

January 12, 2026 — The University of Phayao (UP), Thailand, led by Associate Professor Dr. Supakorn Pongbangpho, President of the University of Phayao, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Chang Gung University (CGU), Taoyuan City, Taiwan, represented by Professor Ming-Je Tang, Ph.D., President of Chang Gung University. The signing reflects both institutions' shared commitment to expanding international cooperation in education and research.
In addition, Associate Professor Surasak Saokaew, Ph.D., Dean of the School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, participated in the ceremony as a witness, reaffirming the School's role in strengthening international academic partnerships.
The purpose of the collaboration is to promote cooperation in education, academic activities, and academic research, while fostering academic linkages and enriching cross-cultural understanding. The partnership also emphasizes academic exchange, joint research, and institutional collaboration to achieve meaningful and mutual benefits for both universities.
Furthermore, the partnership was reinforced through academic engagement at the Mini-Symposium & Research Networking Session of The 1st International Colloquium on Healthcare Entrepreneurship and Leadership (HEAL), bringing together experts from Thailand and Taiwan to exchange insights on timely topics and strengthen research networks for future collaboration.

Japanese Program Students Embark on International Cooperative Education in Japan
On Saturday, December 20, 2025, three students from the Japanese Program of the School of Liberal Arts including Miss Rattanakorn Chootangton, Miss Kantasorn Champadaeng, and Miss Chutikan Phuttrong departed for Japan to commence their Cooperative Education (Co-op) placement at Togari Onsen Ski Resort Co., Ltd. The placement is scheduled to run from December 20, 2025, to April 3, 2026, spanning approximately 16 weeks of professional immersion.
Dr. Ittiphol Buayoi, Assistant Dean of the School of Liberal Arts and the advisor responsible for International Cooperative Education, accompanied the students to Suvarnabhumi Airport, Samut Prakan, to offer encouragement and oversee their departure.
For the 2025 Academic Year, a total of 17 students from the Japanese Program have been selected to participate in the International Cooperative Education Program. These students are being placed across nine different host organizations that operate under formal Memoranda of Understanding (MOU) with the University of Phayao.

UP Strengthens ASEAN Academic Collaboration in Vietnam
University of Phayao, under the leadership of Associate Professor Supakorn Pongbangpho, Ph.D., President of the University of Phayao, made an official visit to Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam from December 3-4, 2025. The purpose of the visit was to strengthen international academic cooperation and collaborative research with prominent Vietnamese institutions such as the University of Architecture Ho Chi Minh City (UAH) and the Industrial University of Ho Chi Minh City (IUH). Additionally, the UP delegation also attended the ASAIHL 2025 Conference.
During the visit, the UP delegation participated in high-level discussions that centered on student and faculty exchange programs, joint research initiatives, and the co-development of academic curricula. These discussions focused on key areas of collaboration such as energy and environmental studies, architecture, design and fine arts, tourism, business, and education. These areas reflect shared priorities in sustainable development and innovation-driven learning.
At UAH, the discussions focused on promoting cooperation in urban design research, architecture and design education, as well as joint workshops and training programs. During talks with IUH, potential collaborations in industry-oriented curricula and applied research were highlighted, with a focus on aligning with technological advancements and workforce development.
In addition, the UP President and delegation attended the ASAIHL 2025 Academic Conference at the New World Hotel, Ho Chi Minh City. The conference gathered more than 300 participants from higher education institutions across Southeast Asia and focused on emerging global challenges, particularly the role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Global Citizenship in shaping the future of higher education.
This visit represents a significant step in the University of Phayao's ongoing efforts to strengthen its ASEAN academic network, enhance international research capacity, and promote educational innovation, ultimately preparing graduates with the skills and perspectives required to compete in the global arena.

School of Liberal Arts Conducts Academic Supervision and Monitoring for Intensive Chinese Language Program at Hainan Normal University
From December 10–14, 2025, the Chinese Program of the School of Liberal Arts, University of Phayao, conducted an academic supervision and monitoring visit for students enrolled in the Intensive Chinese Language Program at Hainan Normal University, People's Republic of China.
The delegation was led by Asst. Prof. Dr. Khomkrich Tachom, Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, accompanied by Asst. Prof. Dr. Supatra Yothinsirikul, Chair of the Bachelor of Arts Program in Chinese, and Dr. Jintana Sringern, Lecturer in the Chinese Program. The visit focused on supervising the academic progress of 28 first-year students (Academic Year 2025) from both the Bachelor of Traditional Chinese Medicine Program and the Bachelor of Arts Program in Chinese.
During the visit, the delegation met with the students to provide guidance and engaged in a constructive exchange of experiences with the Chinese faculty members. Additionally, the team visited the international student dormitories to ensure the well-being and living standards of the students during their overseas studies.

He has just returned from representing Thai youth as a student delegate of Thailand in the SEED Thailand x China Rising Leader Program 3, a study visit and leadership development project supported by the King Prajadhipok's Institute Student Foundation for Society in collaboration with the Government of the People's Republic of China, held during October 21 – November 3, 2025.

RS2GH Research Group Engineering UP Establishes an International Engineering–AI Research Network in China and Hong Kong
The Remote Sensing, Geomatics, Geotechnology, Hydraulics (RS2GH) Research Unit, School of Engineering, University of Phayao, led by Associate Professor Dr. Suriyavut Praai, together with the research team comprising Assistant Professor Dr. Thanet Thongdetsri, Assistant Professor Dr. Thanakarn Suangun, and Dr. Buntueng Yana, embarked on an academic and research networking visit to the People's Republic of China and the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR) during 22–30 October 2025.

University of Phayao and Bali Tourism Polytechnic Formalize Academic Partnership Through MOU Signing Ceremony
This marks the third renewal of the MOU between the two institutions, with each agreement spanning five years. The partnership focuses on two strategic areas of cooperation. The student exchange internship program will provide students with practical work experience at partner organizations in both Thailand and Indonesia, with the host university taking full responsibility for internship supervision and guidance. This arrangement allows students to gain hands-on professional experience while developing cultural understanding in an international setting. Both institutions will also jointly organize international academic conferences, creating platforms for researchers and students to present their work and engage with the global academic community.

UP Expands Global Network through MOU with GKNU, Advancing Trilateral Research Collaboration University of Phayao, Thailand, has taken a significant step toward strengthening its global engagement by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Gyeongkuk National University (GKNU), Republic of Korea.
