Sustainability Students

Student organizations and clubs have organized a total of 124 sustainability-focused activities, with events related to the environment and sustainability held across the university throughout the year. These activities play a key role in driving sustainable university engagement, fostering collaboration among students, staff, alumni, academia, government, private sector, civil society, and the public. Our initiatives primarily focus on energy, environment, and safety, attracting participants from within and beyond the university. Additionally, these activities provide an opportunity for the university to share innovations and new ideas for a sustainable campus that our institution is actively developing. The Student Organizations in University of Phayao total 48 University of Phayao has committed to being Sustainable University for SDGs 2050 since 2020 which comply the global and national sustainable agenda and promotes the development of sustainability leadership "UP Green" on our campus. Student plays a major role in sustainable activities in University of Phayao by using the "actions from everyone, everywhere" campaign. University of Phayao is proud to produce UP Green from our university as change agents to be a leader who makes society and the world sustainable. The Student Union clubs aim to connect a group of students with similar interests and a stronger sense of community while providing opportunities to engage in faculty organizational and leadership development. The activity of students in the Student Union clubs concerns a variety of colorful activities which is up to the recognition of each faculty in University of Phayao as Engineering, Science, Architect, etc. All activities related green concept, provided comprehensive advising, resources, and guidance to students for recognition, organizational and leadership development, and event planning via a variety of colorful activities for sorority and fraternity members by University of Phayao's staff of the Student Activity Section as below for the details. In 2026, University of Phayao will have 124 activities organized by student organizations related to sustainability out of 283 activities on the university's sustainability agenda, or 55.28%.

School of Business and Communication Arts, University of Phayao Promotes Equality and Diversity through "BCA PRIDE U: A Place…Where We Are Equal" On 23 June 2026, the School of Business and Communication Arts, University of Phayao, organized the event "BCA PRIDE U: A Place…Where We Are Equal" at the parking area of Phukamyao Building, University of Phayao. The event aimed to create a learning and creative expression space that encourages students to develop their academic abilities, communication skills, teamwork, and pride in their own identities. The opening ceremony was presided over by Asst. Prof. Dr. Tanyatip Kharuhayothin, Dean of the School of Business and Communication Arts, who emphasized the importance of equality, respect for diversity, and providing opportunities for all students to express their potential with pride. The event was also honored by the presence of Associate Professor Dr. Direk Teeraputorn, Vice President for Corporate Communications, and Assistant Professor Suwit Panyawong, Vice President for Environment and Landscape. The activity was conducted in collaboration with second- to fourth-year students, who played an active role in facilitating the programme. Its primary objectives were to foster positive relationships between senior and junior students and to support new students in adapting to university life. The programme featured recreational activities, group relationship-building sessions, and the sharing of academic and university-life experiences from senior students to juniors. These activities aimed to create a friendly, harmonious, and welcoming atmosphere within the program, while also helping first-year students become more familiar with their classmates, senior students, and academic staff. Link: https://www.up.ac.th/en/NewsRead.aspx?itemID=38075 Electrical Engineering Visit 115-kV GIS Substation Enhancing Practical Learning in Electric Power Systems through Field-Based Experience On Friday, 26 June 2026, fourth-year students from the Bachelor of Engineering Program in Electrical Engineering School of Engineering University of Phayao, participated in a technical field study at the University's 115-kV Gas Insulated Substation (GIS). The visit was organized to enhance students' academic knowledge and provide hands-on learning experiences in a real-world electric power system environment. The session was conducted by Mr. Tanawit Sriduangkham, Head of the Utilities and Maintenance Unit, Division of Buildings and Grounds, University of Phayao. He delivered a comprehensive lecture covering the operating principles of the GIS substation, the configuration and components of high-voltage electrical equipment, as well as inspection procedures, preventive maintenance practices, and system management strategies required to ensure efficient, reliable, and safe operation. The field study also provided students with the opportunity to observe actual electrical equipment and power system infrastructure in operation, engage in technical discussions, and exchange professional knowledge directly with experienced practitioners. The event was held at Room UB003, the 99th Anniversary Building of Phra Ubali Khunupamachan (Puang Dhammappanyo), University of Phayao. The program aimed to foster positive relationships between senior and junior students while promoting a supportive learning environment and strengthening students' sense of belonging within the School community. This year's orientation was organized under the theme "BCA Retro Rookie: New Students with a Vintage Twist." The program was organized by the Thailand Energy Academy. The program provided an opportunity for current students and alumni to exchange experiences, share ideas, and collaboratively prepare plans for student club activities in the upcoming academic year. Participants also took part in a Walk Rally activity designed to enhance analytical thinking, communication, and teamwork skills, as well as an alumni networking session that fostered warm relationships and strengthened bonds between students and graduates. The program was conducted at Rooms C201 and C202 in the Old Central Classroom Building, as well as the Community Health Practice Laboratory of the School of Public Health, University of Phayao. The training was attended by members of the Student Council, the Engineering Music Club, Engineering Photo UP, and the School's Cheerleading Leaders. The initiative aimed to strengthen participants' knowledge and practical competencies in basic first aid, enabling them to respond to emergency situations accurately, promptly, and effectively. Throughout the program, participants engaged in a series of lectures and hands-on training sessions covering essential topics, including first aid and emergency assistance, Basic Life Support (BLS), Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), the operation of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED), and the appropriate use of common medications. The training was delivered by Dr. Kiattisak Ongkulna, Associate Dean for Student Quality Development and Organizational Communication, School of Nursing, University of Phayao. Drawing upon his expertise and professional experience, he provided comprehensive instruction on emergency first aid and basic life-saving procedures. The activity was conducted at Ban Khun Tuen School, Mae Long Subdistrict, Omkoi District, Chiang Mai Province. This initiative functioned as a significant experiential learning platform, enabling students to enhance practical competencies in construction, technical craftsmanship, planning, problem-solving, and resource management. Furthermore, it fostered teamwork, responsibility, and adaptive capacity through direct engagement with local communities. The activities were conducted under challenging conditions, including remote geographical settings, limited resources, difficult transportation, absence of mobile network coverage, minimal internet access, and nighttime temperatures dropping to approximately 12°C. On 17 March 2026, the Division of Academic Services and Community Development, Faculty of Allied Health Sciences, University of Phayao, in collaboration with the Division of Student Quality Development and Special Affairs and the Allied Health Volunteer Club, organized a community health screening outreach activity under the "Allied Health Volunteer Community Development Camp, Academic Year 2025" at Ban Mae Suk Nai School. The initiative received an overwhelmingly positive response, with a large number of local residents and students participating in the services. The activity comprised a comprehensive and systematic range of health services, including blood pressure and pulse measurement, nutritional assessment based on height and weight, and screening for pesticide exposure risk through cholinesterase enzyme analysis—aimed at monitoring the health impacts of agricultural chemicals. Additional services included urinalysis to assess urinary system function and detect related abnormalities, as well as ABO blood group testing. Furthermore, health education sessions and practical training on muscle and joint stretching were provided to help prevent injuries related to occupational activities and daily living. The primary objective of this initiative was to provide students from the Physical Therapy and Medical Technology programs with the opportunity to apply both theoretical knowledge and practical skills in delivering tangible services to the community. The initiative aimed to cultivate a strong sense of public consciousness among students and to encourage their active engagement in maintaining and improving the school's internal environment through experiential, hands-on practices. These included cleaning, space enhancement, and the systematic organization of the area into a "dust-free room," thereby elevating the quality of the learning environment to better support health and well-being. Furthermore, the activity sought to raise awareness of preventive measures and mitigation strategies concerning fine particulate matter (PM2.5), a critical environmental issue with significant implications for public health. Link: https://www.up.ac.th/en/NewsRead.aspx?itemID=37222 University of Phayao Volunteers Create Hand Rehabilitation Devices for Stroke and Paralysis Patients The Volunteer Operations Center, Division of Student Affairs, organized the activity "Pee Chang Hand-in-Hand Volunteers" to produce hand rehabilitation devices designed to stimulate muscle function for patients with paralysis, muscle weakness, and neurological conditions accompanied by hand spasticity. The activity was held at the University of Phayao. The program was honored by Assistant Professor Dr. Panida Hanphithakphong, a lecturer in Physical Therapy, School of Allied Health Sciences, University of Phayao, who delivered a knowledge-sharing session titled "Using the Pee Chang Hand Device to Support Hand Muscle Rehabilitation for Stroke Patients." The session provided practical guidance on proper and safe use of the device in rehabilitation settings. The Pee Chang Hand device is designed to assist patients with paralysis or muscle weakness who experience muscle spasticity and clenched hands, conditions that may lead to palm injuries, shortened muscles and tendons, joint stiffness, and limited hand mobility. By placing the device between the patient's palm and fingers, it helps reduce the risk of such complications while also encouraging hand exercise through squeezing, thereby promoting muscle activation and recovery. More than 50 student volunteers participated in the activity, producing a total of 55 Pee Chang Hand devices, which will be donated to Phayao Hospital for use in patient care and rehabilitation services. This participation transcended the bounds of athletic competition, serving instead as a compelling articulation of the University of Phayao student identity, presented with clarity and purpose through three defining dimensions—aesthetics, character, and health—seamlessly unified to convey the dignified and dynamic spirit of Allied Health Sciences students. This identity was expressed through a thoughtfully curated array of activities, including the ceremonial parade, athletic competitions, recreational programs, and the spirited presence of the cheering section. Together, these elements demonstrated unity, creativity, and collective pride in being students of the University of Phayao, set against a national stage that convened Allied Health Sciences students from higher education institutions across the country. The initiative recognized outstanding community-based projects developed by students from the School of Public Health through interdisciplinary collaboration and practical engagement with local communities. It aims to integrate academic learning with professional practice and community partnership in order to strengthen population health, enhance health literacy, and improve quality of life, particularly in the context of an ageing society. Link: https://www.up.ac.th/en/NewsRead.aspx?itemID=37058 Staff, and Students from School of Science Conduct Forest Conservation at Mae Na Ruea Watershed and Collect Environmental Research Data On Saturday, February 14, 2026, Associate Professor Dr. Sitthisak Pinmongkhonkul, Dean of the School of Science, University of Phayao, led faculty members, staff, students from the Biology program, and students from the School of Science to the watershed forest area of Mae Na Ruea Reservoir, Mae Na Ruea Subdistrict, Phayao Province, under the Ecology Volunteer Project and the Science Go Green Project. This field trip aimed to conserve natural resources and collect data for research purposes, with the following key activities:

1. Activities to survey and record data on trees in the watershed forest area, to be used in assessing the potential for carbon dioxide absorption and sequestration of the forest ecosystem.
2. Activities to collect samples and study the biodiversity of aquatic insects, which are important bioindicators for assessing water quality and the health of aquatic ecosystems.
3. Activities to collect waste and remove garbage from the forest area, to preserve the integrity of the ecosystem and the beauty of nature.

These activities reflect the integration of teaching and learning, research, and academic services, while instilling environmental conservation awareness in students, to develop a new generation of scientists who are socially and environmentally responsible in a sustainable manner. Economic and social assessments revealed a Benefit–Cost Ratio of 20.89, indicating exceptional returns. Tung Mok Village was officially recognized as a Science and Technology Hub Village and received national awards, highlighting the effectiveness of university–community collaboration. More than 120 elderly participants from the local community received health screenings and personalized nutrition counseling. The program plays a key role in promoting health, monitoring nutritional risks, and preventing disease among older adults in the community. The fieldwork emphasized the integration of academic learning with community service. The volunteer students gained comprehensive hands-on experience in professional nutrition practice, including anthropometric and body composition assessments, dietary intake evaluation using the 24-hour dietary recall method, nutritional data analysis, and the provision of individualized dietary recommendations tailored to each elderly participant's health condition.
